Feeling stressed out?
Since most of my posts have been related to pets but
specifically dogs I am going to continue the theme. This time I will be talking
about how dogs can help reduce stress. There are countless ways an animal or
pet can reduce stress in one’s life. I can attest to a dog relieving all types
of stress and negative vibes. When I would have a long day of class and work
coming home to my dog just took off so much weight off my shoulders. Having a
pet, specifically a dog, gave me so much comfort when I felt stressed.
Dogs can not only reduce stress and make you feel better,
but they can also lower your blood pressure. Blood pressure can be a physical
measure of stress. Being in the presence of an animal can help ease the stress you’re
experiencing. I can relate to this because I’ll catch myself feeling stressed
or overwhelmed and I will see a cute dog or cat and it will instantly change my
mood. Dogs can also help us deal with stress differently.
Taking the time to walk your dog or simply play fetch with
them can help you deal with stress. I believe taking a second to step away from
whatever is stressing you out and just spending time with your pet can help you
take a step back and relax. This can also be a time for you to think about
everything and rationalize what’s really causing you to stress out.
Having a dog can simply bring joy to any pet owner. A study
done by psychologists at Miami and Saint Louis University showed that people
that owned pets tended to be less lonely, had better self-esteem and much more.
They showcased a decrease in factors that are connected to stress.
Is it scientifically proven that dogs can reduce stress?
Pets can decrease your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels,
and feelings of loneliness (Centers for Disease control [CDC], 2014). Pets can
also provide opportunities to become social or more social. This can also aid
to reducing stress. I have attached a link to an article below to show how dogs
and pets can reduce stress.

I think this post relates to your second one about how dogs help people. I love it, Dogs have a huge effect on you. Especially because they know when something is wrong with you. When my mother got into a car accident, and she was finally able to come home my dog didn't jump on her or try to bother her like he usually does because he knew that she wasn't feeling well so he just slept by hr bed at night which I thought was really sweet!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you said pets can hell you to be come more social because this is true. I've started so many new friendships off of "can i pet your dog". And having an animal in the pet community is cool, you can meet all types of people and make different types of bonds.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I can definitely agree with this post because I love coming home to my puppy especially when I had a long day. He makes me feel so love! Like what's a greater feeling coming home to someone jumping on you and giving you dog kisses lol. Seriously , I encourage everyone to get a pet.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the stress part. There have been plenty of days where I was feeling down and irritated and everything and everyone was getting on my nerves. But coming home, my puppy was always so happy to see me and just wanted to cuddle. He definitely helps with stress and just making my mood better.
ReplyDeleteThis is something i believe to be true. While i do not curently have a pet i am a believer in their therapy. I liked how you mentioned how just a small walk with your pup can make that much of a difference in you day.
ReplyDeleteI agree that pets can decrease the stress in our lives. Having an animal to come home to that loves you and is happy to see you in turn makes us as humans feel comforted and loved. When we feel that constant love and comfort, our stress levels and anxiety reduce.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Dogs are definitely a stress reliever. They sow so much love to their owner and all the love just makes you extremely happy and enjoying.
ReplyDeleteIts crazy that dogs can reduce the stress in our lives and make us less anxious. But really it makes sense i know my dog gives the best welcoming when i come home, and shows so much love. Maybe if humans showed that type of love we would all be a lot less stressed.
